Welcome to your Ross 2008 wiki.
Objective
The aim of this wiki is for your class to build a shared understanding of medical science, and to create a succinct reference resource of all your course material. The wiki can act as an ongoing, ever-expanding "text", that you can develop and improve throughout your time at Ross, and beyond.
Use this wiki for collaboratively developing study products that reflect your understanding of course materials. Create links between pages that help you and others to see connections between material for different courses and lectures.
Don't be shy to edit each others' contributions - reading a colleague's representation of the material, and thinking carefully about how it could be improved, is an excellent way to deepen your own understanding.
And don't be shy to make "mistakes" - you can only learn from mistakes when they get corrected, and this wiki is an ideal place for that to happen.
New Pages
Add new pages to cover new topics or lectures. When you name a new page, use a WikiWord, so that you can create links more easily.
When you create a new page, it is a good idea to create a link to it in the SideBar, so that others can find it. You can easily create links between ideas and pages, which should help you to make connections between different subject areas.
Don't simply upload large files - try to learn actively by producing your own wording for the content.
You should also tag pages appropriately, so that pages about different topics (e.g. genetics, or cardiovascular system) can be found easily.

Wiki Etiquette
Users should adhere to a few simple rules of general etiquette:
1. Recognize that this is produced by students, and that anyone can change the information.
2. Stay on topic. Please resist the temptation to begin pages on topics outside the domain of the course (no movie reviews, chocolate chip cookies, or personal diaries).
3. Try to give references for all your work.
4. Maintain civility. At all times, show proper respect for other readers and to the subjects of your work (e.g., authors of published articles). Do not criticize them as persons and keep all comments about their work constructive.

Cystic Fibrosis- The histological understanding of it is there is a mutated protein that is improperly folded so it cannot leave the lumen of the ER. The mutation has occured on the protein Phe508, and no protein can leave lumen of the ER and go to the plasma membrane without being properly folded. Due to this mutation the CFTR gene is mutated and cannot allow Chlorine out. Chlorine attracts water and begins to accumulate it within the cell. This is most commonly effected in the lungs.
